Two near-accidents on the drive home were almost enough to convince Kevin his next move had to involve sleep. The third, in which his Mercedes was nearly T-boned on the driver’s side when he ran a red light, sealed the deal. He dragged himself up the stairs to the bedroom, loosening his tie as he went, toeing off his shoes outside the bedroom door. There had been no sign of Tiernan downstairs. Hopefully, if the Fae was out, he would let the poor exhausted human sleep when he got home.

Kevin stopped short in the bedroom doorway. Tiernan was already in bed, on his stomach with his face turned away from the door. Only the slow rise and fall of his back betrayed the fact he was still breathing. In the hand Kevin could see, there was a note, and a pen lay on the bedside table. He edged forward and slipped the note from his lover’s hand, smoothed it out. In Tiernan’s elegant script, it read:

I fucked up big time at Purgatory. But it was incredible. I’ll tell you when I wake up. Don’t wake me for anything less than the end of the world.

Kevin shook his head, looking from the note to the sleeping Fae. At least he probably wouldn’t have to dust off his wrestling moves again tonight. Fighting, but ultimately losing to, a jaw-cracking yawn, he stripped down and climbed into bed beside Tiernan, pulling the sheets up over them both, punching up a pillow and settling onto it with a soft groan. This isn’t quite the end of the world. Hopefully my career won’t go down in flames before morning.
